‘Drag Race Philippines’ names Jiggly Caliente as one of its judges

The first season of the local ‘Drag Race’ is set to premiere this August

“Very St. Tropez,” that’s one of the memorable lines Jiggly Caliente expressed during her time as a season four competitor of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” that made her iconic. And it looks like it will not be the last as the Fil-Am drag artist is set to be one of the judges of the upcoming “Drag Race Philippines.”

“I am overjoyed in a major major way to be joining the judge's panel for Drag Race Philippines,” Jiggly said in an interview with EW. “There is a fierce Filipino drag scene and I am proud to be returning to my home country in this new role as a ‘Drag Race’ judge to shine a spotlight on these incredible artists to the world—or the universe, rather. Pak! Mabuhay, ‘Drag Race’!”

Since her time on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season four, Jiggly has guest-starred in a number of series including “Ugly Betty” and “Pose.” in 2018, she launched her “T.H.O.T. Process” album and returned to the drag reality show as one of the “RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars” season 6’s cast in 2021.

News about the coming of “Drag Race” to the Philippines was announced last August 2021, with RuPaul Charles herself calling Filipino drag artists to join the show’s auditions.

Since “RuPaul’s Drag Race” premiered in 2009 in the US, the drag phenomenon has spread to different nations including the UK, Australia, Canada, Chile, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Thailand. But what makes “Drag Race Philippines” unique among all those international editions is that it is set to be the first to have “Untucked,” a spin-off series presenting the competitors after their moments with the judging panel.

Apart from Jiggly’s judging gig, the show’s premiere date, and “Untucked,” no news have been released yet about who will be hosting the Philippine edition of “Drag Race.”

Meanwhile, “Drag Race” alum Manila Luzon is set to host another upcoming Filipino drag reality competition titled “Drag Den.”

Drag Race Philippines” will premiere on Aug. 17 on WOW Presents Plus.
