2,900 kilograms of campaign materials collected in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY – At least 2,900 kilograms of campaign materials were collected in the province of Iloilo which started a massive clean-up all over the province almost a week after the May 9 national and local elections.

The province-wide clearing operation was in response to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr’s call under ‘Limpyo Eleksyon’ aimed at removing political campaign posters at the roadsides.

“Barangay officials, youth organizations, environmental offices personnel, party-list volunteers, and even politicians helped collect the used campaign materials,” said Mitzi Peñaflorida of the Iloilo Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office.

For instance, re-elected Mayor Niel “Bongbong” Tupas III of Barotac Viejo town even went out to help remove the used campaign materials.

In Iloilo 1st District, a total of 28 sacks of campaign tarpaulins were collected.

In Iloilo 2nd District, a total of 967 kgs of tarpaulins, plastic posters including bamboo poles, wires and binders were collected.

In Iloilo 3rd District, tarpaulins and plastic streams weighing 1,220 kgs were collected.

About 345 kgs of garbage in Iloilo’s 4th District were collected, and 284 kgs in Iloilo 5th district.
