Who will be the next Senate President?


So. who will be the Senate President in the forthcoming 19th Congress?

There are still no clues on who will replace outgoing Senate President Vicente Sotto III, chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

Sotto lost in the May 9, 2022 vice presidential race. By June 30, he will have served four six-year terms as a member of the 24-man Senate.

Will his successor be Senator Juan Edgardo ‘’Sonny’’ Angara? He is the son of former Senate President Edgardo Angara

Or how about Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri?

Zubiri was one of the senatorial candidates under the UniTeam of presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr., a former senator, and presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Angara and Zubiri and two other senators - Grace Poe and comebacking Senator Loren Legarda - were seen together in a picture sent by Zubiri’s Viber.

Asked if they were talking about or deciding who should the next Senate chief, Zubiri said they were only viewing a basketball game.

The 12 ‘’winning’’ senatorial candidates and the 12 other senators who are not reelectionists will choose who should be the Senate President on July 23, the opening of the 19th Congress.
