Wong settles for silver in taijiquan; Inso bags 2nd medal with bronze in taijijian


Reigning champion Agatha Wong settled for silver medal in the women's taijiquan while Jones Llabres Inso bagged his second medal with a bronze finish in the men's taijijian in the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Cau Giay Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam Saturday, May 14.

Wong, a two-time gold medalist in the taijiquan event, showed poise despite a close contest and finished with 9.69, just .2 points away from gold medalist Indonesia Alisya Mellynar with 9.71.

Sy Xuan Sydney Chin delivered bronze for Malaysia with 9.68.

The 23-year-old Wong is set to defend her title in the women's taijijian counterpart on Sunday, May 15. She won silver in the said event in the 2017 SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Inso's second runner-up finish came just a day after winning silver medal in the men’s taijiquan event on Friday, May 13.

Jun Kai Chan, who was bronze medalist in the taijiquan event, won the gold this time and bested eight other contenders with 9.72.

Indonesia’s Nicholas scored 9.71 for silver while Inso joined the tight match and settled for bronze with 9.70.

Daniel Parantac, two-time SEA Games champion and Asian Games silver medalist, placed eighth with 9.45. (UPDATED: 2:19 p.m.)
