Two killed, two wounded in Basilan gun attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A tricycle driver and a motorcycle rider were killed while two others were wounded when a group of gunmen numbering to about six fired shots at them in Barangay Matikang, Lantawan, Basilan on Wednesday, May 11.

The fatalities were identified as Omar Marani Manasal, 37, a tricycle driver and 39-year-old Nurmina Olleng Manasal, who was riding on a separate motorcycle with Benhad Manasal.

Sandra Manasal, 45, who was on board Omar’s tricycle, and Benhad Manasal, 44, were both wounded in the gun attack. The victims were all residents of Barangay Bagbagon, Lantawan, Basilan Province.

A report from the Lantawan Municipal Police Station showed that Omar was driving his tricycle with Sandra on board while Benhad and Nurmina were travelling on a motorcycle towards Isabela City from Barangay Matikang when they were fired upon by six armed men.

The suspects escaped after the incident on motorcycles.

Omar sustained four gunshot wounds while Nurmina was fatally shot at the back of the head.

Benhad and Sandra were rushed to the Basilan Community Hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating the incident to identify the suspects and determine the motive of the crime.
