Sotto on VP bid loss: 'We presented an alternative for a better system of governance, politics'

‘’We presented an alternative for a better system in governance and politics but the electorate had their minds conditioned elsewhere,’’ Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III on Tuesday, May 19 said.

‘’Word of honor and loyalty are of far greater importance than an election win,’’ Sotto added.

Sotto, a vice presidential bet, issued the statement as a partial, unofficial count by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) of the May 9, 2022 elections as of 6:17. A.M. showed him landing on the third slot.

He is the running mate of presidential bet Senator Panfilo M. Lacson who landed in fifth place.

The presidential and vice presidential race had former Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Davao city Mayor Sara Duterte leading the pack by a mile.

The same unofficial count showed former Senators Francis ‘’Chiz’’ Escudero and Alan Peter S. Cayetano landing in the top 12.

Escudero, in fifth place, had 19.6 million votes while Cayetano landed at the seventh slot with 18.6 million votes.

They are the only lawyers ‘’winning’’ in the law-making body.
