Voting in Eastern Visayas peaceful so far- Banac

four hours after all the voting precincts opened in Eastern Visayas region, police said they have not monitored any incident that threatens the security and credibility of the elections.

Police Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, director of the Police Regional Office 8, said the opening of the national and local elections in the entire region is peaceful so far.

"As of press time, PRO8 has not received any untoward incidents that transpired in the opening of polling precincts regionwide," Banac told the Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.

But he said they will continuously monitor the progress of the election until all the polling precincts closed for voting at 7 p.m. and during the entire canvassing period.

Banac said they have long prepared for the election security in the region based on the regular assessment and history of elections in the region.

"Our police personnel are there 24/7 to make sure that every polling precinct is secure, thus , making the national and local elections a peaceful one," said Banac.
