Three wounded in Cagayan grenade blast; one of two suspects identified


CAMP MARCELO A ADDURU, TUGUEGARAO CITY – A barangay councilor and two barangay police were injured in a grenade attack in Brgy Lallayug, Tuao, Cagayan on Sunday (May 8).

The three injured were identified as Hermogenes Ganaban, a barangay councilor, Honorato Tangaro and Domingo Sanchez, both barangay police of said barangay.

Initial investigation by Philippine National Police - Tuao revealed that at around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, the three victims were on duty at their outpost along the road in front of Lallayug Barangay Hall when motorcycle-riding in tandem suddenly hurled a hand grenade.

The fleeing suspects even uttered ‘Happy New Year’ as the grenade exploded.

The victims were immediately rushed to Tuao District Hospital for treatment.

In a follow-up investigation by the PNP Tuao on Monday, the victims identified the driver of the said used motorcycle as Paolo Doctor, a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, Tuao, Cagayan while his companion who hurled the grenade has not been identified.

A dragnet operation is still going on for the immediate arrest of the suspects.
