Sara Duterte calls for peaceful, orderly elections amid VCM malfunctions, poll day violence


Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has called for an “honest, orderly, and peaceful” election.

This, amid rampant cases of defective vote-counting machines (VCMs) and reports of election day violence.

“We should all pray for an honest, orderly, and peaceful elections. Tayong lahat, kung sino man ang manalo, ay tanggapin natin ‘yun basta siguraduhin lang natin na tama ang pagbilang ng ating boto (No matter who wins, all of us should accept the results as long as we make sure the votes were counted properly),” she said in an election day statement on Monday, May 9.

On election day, the Commission on Elections reported at least 1,867 malfunctioning or defective VCMs, inconveniencing thousands of voters.

Meanwhile, Manila Bulletin wrote several reports detailing instances of election day violence which include shootings, and even one reported casualty.
