5 cops ordered to serve as election inspectors in North Cotabato

Five policemen will serve as Board of Election Inspectors in Pikit town of North Cotabato, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Monday, May 9.

PNP Officer-In-Charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao said it is the Commission on Elections which ordered them to deploy at least five cops to serve as election inspectors in Barangay Talitay in Pikiot town on Sunday, May 8.

Almost 1,000 policemen underwent a refresher course for BEIs last week in anticipation of a worse case scenario wherein teachers would not show up during election day for security reasons.

"In some areas where members of the Electoral Board may not be able to report for duty for one reason or another, the PNP has a pool of trained alternate members of the Electoral Board and Board of Election Inspectors who will take over," said Danao.

He said the PNP's line of communication is always open to Comelec for any order to deploy police BEIs in other areas.
