Uswag Ilonggo Party-list clarifies its 1st nominee not disqualified

ILOILO CITY—Uswag Ilonggo Party-list has clarified that its first nominee, James ‘Jojo’ Ang Jr., has never been disqualified.

“No Comelec resolution was issued, released or promulgated as to the disqualification of Uswag Ilonggo Party-list and its nominees, including Jojo Ang,” said the party-list in a statement released Sunday, May 8.

The party-list made the clarification after a screenshot of a precinct finder showed a “deactivated” voter status for Ang in Iloilo City.

“To everyone, please be informed that Jojo Ang is a bona fide registered voter in Pavia town, Iloilo province. He is qualified as first nominee of Uswag Ilonggo Party-list,” the party-list added.

The post claiming that Ang is a deactivated voter gained traction.

The post was shared by many including former Iloilo 1st District congressman and Miag-ao town, mayoralty candidate Richard Garin, whose political clan has founded AAMBIS-Owa Party-list.

Uswag Ilonggo is founded by incumbent Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, whose daughter Raisa is the second nominee.

“We would like to ask everyone to please check facts first and together, let us advocate for a clean, honest and orderly election,” the party-list added.
