PH records average of 184 new Covid-19 cases daily—DOH

The Philippines is only recording an average of 184 new Covid-19 cases each day. Despite this, the Department of Health (DOH) urged the public not to let their guards down.

“Ukol po doon sa mga Covid cases natin, tuloy-tuloy pa rin po ang pagbaba ng ating mga kaso. Ngayon po, nationally, meron po tayong 184 cases per day na average. Sa National Capital Region naman po (Regarding our Covid cases, our cases continue to decrease. Currently, nationally, we have an average of 184 cases per day. In the National Capital Region), 78 cases per day,” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire during a public briefing on Saturday, May 7.

Vergeire said they are monitoring the Covid-19 status of some areas in the country.

“Although may mga binabantayan tayo na mga lugar na merong pagtaas ng kaso but these are just less than 35 cases at the most— dito sa mga areas na ito, hindi rin po nagtatranslate sa pagtaas ng mga admissions sa hospital (we are monitoring areas where there is an increase in cases but these are just less than 35 cases at the most. This uptick in cases in certain areas does not translate to an increase in hospital admissions),” she said.

Meanwhile, Vergeire said they have not detected new cases of Omicron sublineages based on the recent result of the genome sequencing.

“Dito sa genome sequencing, meron po tayong nagawa nung April 28 kung saan 58 samples: 36 sa kanila positive sa Omicron variant, isa po positive sa Beta variant, 21 wala pong lineage na assigned. Wala po tayong nakita pa na ibang katulad ng mga sublineages na sinasabi natin (Based on the latest genome sequencing which was done last April 28 and involves 58 samples: 36 of them were positive for the Omicron variant, one was positive for the Beta variant, 21 had no lineage assigned. We have not detected cases that involve sublineages),” she said.

Vergeire also reported that they already sent the samples of 15 tourists in Palawan, who tested positive for Covid-19, for genome sequencing to determine what type of coronavirus variant they contracted.
