The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) should coordinate with transport groups to provide additional buses for those who want to go home to cast their votes for the national and local elections, senatorial candidate Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said on Saturday, May 7.

Eleazar issued the statement following reports that there are stranded passengers in various terminals especially in Metro Manila and other urban areas due to lack of buses that would transport them to their hometowns.

“It should have been expected that a lot of passengers would go to their respective provinces to exercise their right to vote. Preparations should have been done earlier,” said Eleazar.

“But there is still a chance to catch up so I ask the bus companies to add more buses,” he added.

Aside from additional buses, Eleazar said assistance desks should also be set up in bus terminals and other transportation hubs to assist the passengers.

“Further, the security in these public places should be guaranteed to prevent lawless elements from attacking,” said Eleazar.

He said additional police personnel should also be deployed in these areas to secure and extend help to passengers.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 9, 2022, or the election day, a special non-working holiday for the elections.
