Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año assured Friday, May 6, that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is up to the task of addressing “any threat and handle any emergency or security situation.” under the leadership of OIC PNP Chief, Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr.

“He (Danao) is only designated as OIC because of the Constitutional restriction on appointment during election period but he would discharge his duties and functions just like a Chief PNP during this critical period,’’ Año said.
The DILG chief pointed out that Danao’s designation as PNP OIC will not affect the ongoing security preparations being implemented by the PNP for the upcoming May 9 polls.
As PNP OIC, Año noted that Danao’s first order is to ensure that all security preparations are in place and all police units are mobilized and on alert so that the country will have a peaceful, orderly and honest elections.
Año admitted counting on Danao to continue and further intensify the PNP’s ongoing campaign against criminality and lawlessness, communist terrorism, illegal drugs and others.
