(PHIVOLCS)

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake was recorded in Surigao del Sur at around 3:34 p.m., Friday, May 6, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 23 kilometers (km) southeast of Marihatag, Surigao del Sur, and at a shallow depth of 42 km.

Its instruments recorded the earthquake at Intensity II in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro and Intensity I in Tandag City in Surigao del Sur and Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
