6.2-magnitude quake hits waters off Davao Oriental – Phivolcs


A strong earthquake with a magnitude measuring 6.2 struck waters off Davao Oriental around 5:40 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Thursday, May 5.

The epicenter of the quake was traced 104 kilometers (km) southeast of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental and it was tectonic in origin.

Meanwhile, the following instrumental intensities were recorded following this quake: Instrumental intensity III in Malungon and Abel Sarangani; Instrumental intensity II in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Davao City; Tupi, South Cotabato; Koronadal City; Instrumental intensity I in Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Kidapawan City; Kiamba, Sarangani; Santo Niño and T’boli South Cotabato.

Residents of the aforementioned areas were warned of possible aftershocks due to this quake.
