2 men nabbed for damaging, stealing P250k worth of cables from Maragondon, Cavite resort

MARAGONDON, Cavite – The police here arrested two men who stole line wires from a resort that is undergoing construction in Barangay Tulay-B on Wednesday, May 4.

Maragondon Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the suspects as Rojhon Padala and Joshua Calderon.

According to the police report, the resort's project engineer saw the suspects on their way out of the construction premises carrying a sack.

Upon checking the contents of the sack, the engineer found coils of copper taken from the line wire meant to be used for the resort's electrical wiring.

"Binalatan talaga nila. Siguro nga nitong mga days na nakalipas, baka pinutol na ng mga trabahante, tapos noong gabi, tsaka lang nila ilalabas (They took out the copper from the insulation. They probably cut the wire over the past days and planned to take it out at night)," investigator-on-case Senior Master Sgt.Jesus M Pedernal Jr. told the Manila Bulletin.

"Pero may mga pinutol pa sila doon na siguro babalikan nila kung nakalusot sila (But they also left behind cut wires that they probably planned to get if they got away with it)."

Pedernal said the amount of copper inside the sack would have sold at a junk shop for P50,000. However, the total worth of line wires cut, damaged, and left unusable by the suspects cost P250,000.

The suspects are currently under police custody and are facing qualified theft charges.
