Police official, wife hurt in Cebu City ambush


CEBU CITY -- A police official and his wife were wounded after they were ambushed on Sunday night, May 1.

Police Lt. Col. Chuck Barandog and his wife, Yvonne, were aboard a pick-up when a motorcycle-riding gunman fired at them along Pope John Paul II Avenue in Barangay Mabolo past 10 p.m.

Barandog, who was driving the vehicle, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and remained in critical condition at a private hospital. His wife was hit in the back.

Barandog is the former chief of the City Mobile Force of the Cebu City Mobile Force Company. The attack happened several days after he was transferred to Camp Crame.

Barandog's wife is a former barangay captain of Calamba, Cebu City and is running as a first nominee of STL Party-list.

Yvonne is also the former administrator of the Cebu City Medical Center.

The couple was accompanied by a policeman as a security escort at the time of the incident but was not able to return fire, the police said.
