DOLE-9 leads Labor Day celebration, lauds resiliency of Filipino workers in Zamboanga


ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment regional office-9 recognized the resiliency of the Filipino workers during the commemoration of Labor Day on Sunday, May 1.

“Magkapit bisig tayo para walang maiwanan,” said Lawyer Roy Buenafe, DOLE-9 Director, as he commended the workers who strived hard for their livelihood during the Covid-19 pandemic in Zamboanga.

Buenafe also invited workers to participate in the jobs fair which offered some 3,400 local and foreign job opportunities and a one-stop shop set up by various government agencies for processing.

Meanwhile, various activities were also organized in line with 120th Labor Day’s celebration.

The DOLE-9 Nursing Service Unit and the Zamboanga City Health Office administered 120 booster shots to walk-in laborers.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provided training on cake decorating and trouble-shooting techniques in automotive. Workers were treated to free haircuts, nail care and massages.

Talented workers who won in the Talentadong Obrero also brought home cash prizes and trophies. Raffle prizes were given to the audience during the DOLE raffle bonanza inside a local mall in Zamboanga.
