Darul Ifta Bangsamoro announces Hariraya celebration to be May 2


ZAMBOANGA CITY – The celebration of Hariraya will be on Monday, May 2.

This was announced by Abuhuraira A. Udasan, the Mufti (legal expert) of the Darul Ifta (the Islamic department that issues legal opinions) in Bangsamoro.

Bangsamoro Darul Ifta Mufti Abuhuraira A. Udasan declares the Hariraya celebration to be on May 2, Monday based on the results of the moon sighting ceremony on Sunday.

The declaration was made in a written announcement based on moon sighting results for the Eid Fitr on Sunday evening. The statement was released at around 7:45pm.

Prior to the declaration, the Darul Ifta assigned groups to conduct the moon sighting ceremony to catch a glimpse of the crescent moon which will signal the end of the fasting period and the start of the Hariraya celebration.

“Finally, the result of the moon sighting is that the moon crescent has been sighted,” the Mufti said in a statement.

“Based on this, the Bangsamoro Mufti has declared that the Eid Fitr will be tomorrow, Monday, 1st of Shawwal 1443, corresponding to the 2nd of May 2022, In Sha Allah,” the statement added.

The declaration reverberated around Muslim communities and mosques as Muslims prepared for the Hariraya celebration.

Hariraya prayers will be held in all mosques tomorrow morning followed by traditional visits to family and relatives for the Hariraya celebration.
