Bets LGUs asked enforce Covid health protocols as election campaign period heats up

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded all local government units (LGUs) and political bets to strictly enforce the minimum public health standards (MPHS) to deter the upsurge of Covid-19.

“We are calling LGUs to strictly enforce the Comelec resolution 10732 that sets the guidelines on the conduct of campaign activities complying to the health protocols set by IATF,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in a message to reporters.

The DILG chief asked the organizers of political rallies to strictly coordinate with the respective LGUs and to take note of all health protocols.

“Organizers of political rallies must coordinate with LGUs and law enforcement agencies so that appropriate measures are enforced to ensure the safety of the attendees. Organizers must also ensure that there are safety marshalls and health stations in the area,” Año noted.

He also ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the barangay officials to make sure that all health protocols are followed.

“The PNP and barangay officials, especially the tanods (village security officers) will continue to warn or arrest violators of health protocols,” Ano said.
