Omega head coach Jomie “Pakbet” Abalos felt that ECHO’s gamble to veer away from its usual four-protect-one play centered on Karl “Karltzy” Nepomuceno’s hero pick played a crucial role in the fall of the squad that was once dubbed as the league’s super team.
Coach Pakbet said Omega wasn’t surprise to the change of strategy from ECHO and even actually anticipated that Karltzy would transition from his usual Assassin Emblem-Killing Spree junglers to Jungle Emblem-Demon Slayer talent.
“Alam na namin na si Karltzy mag aadjust siya sa hero niya, kasi ilang beses sila natalo nung jungle emblem nung ibang teams kaya sabi namin mag aadjust siya ng playstyle niya kaya prepared na kami na gumawa pa ng ibang way para counterin yung jungle emblem,” said Pakbet following his team’s dominant 3-0 sweep of ECHO
Far from his usual flashy plays using his signature Lancelot, Paquito and Ling picks, Karltzy tried to adapt and utilized junglers like Karina, Dyrroth and Balmond in the series.
ECHO didn’t play exactly bad in the series as it even controlled the early minutes of the games – and was even close to completing one in Game 3 – if not for crucial misplay in the latter part of the matches giving windows for Omega to mount a comeback.
For Patrick “E2max” Caidic, ECHO played uncharacteristically in the series – something he attributed to the lack of the preparation time to fully get accustomed to the new game plan.
“Narealize nung natatalo na sila dun nalang nila narealize na kaialngan na pala natin mag adjust which is kulang na kulang sila sa time,” said E2max. “Sanay na sanay na kami na may nakakalaban na jungle emblem tapos sila late sila gumamit kulang sila sa preparaition.”
While Karltzy had no qualms in using the jungle emblem on his heroes, he admitted that the team somehow lost their identity when they tried to adapt to the META.
“Okay naman sa akin wala naming problema basta pag sinabi nilang magjujungle lang ako okay lang ako pero di talaga yun yung meta namin, kasi madalas ako yung nagki-carry ng game kaya sobrang laki ng inadjust namin bago mag playoffs.”
