Fennel Adversity survived a grueling play-in tournament to advance and join fellow PH representative RRQ Philippines in the WCS Finals playoffs which starts on Tuesday, April 26
The WCS Philippines runner-up finished second at the end of the play-in group stage and had to dispatch Taiwanese ONE team in a five-game thriller, 3-2, in the last chance qualifier to formally punch its ticket to the playoffs.
Trailing earlier in the series 2-1, the Filipinos found their groove in Game 4 which they carried on in the series-clincher to cap a busy start to its WCS Finals journey.
Fennel had a slow start to the tournament, drawing its series against ONE team and EVOS Thailand in the opening day of the play-in group stage. It then topped Oceania representative Smash Logic Gaming in Day 2 before rounding up its schedule with a crucial win against Vietnamese squad Cerberus Esports.
Cerberus still finished atop the standing with a 3-0-1 record, earning first of the last two spots in the playoff. Fennel finished second and had to face ONE Team in the best-of-five affair after the latter won the tie-breaker against EVOS TH for the third seed.
Fennel will now go up against Vietnamese powerhouse and WCS Vietnam champions Team Flash. Should it win, Fennel will take on the winner between Thai team Buriram United and Malaysian squad SEM9.
In the other bracket, WCS PH champions RRQ will take on Indonesian champion Persis Esports with the chance to advance to upper bracket semifinals against the winner of Flash Wolves and Cerberus Esports at stake.
