Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano took a swipe at UniTeam and celebrities for endorsing the rivals of her sister-in-law and her team in the May 9 national and local elections.
The UniTeam, led by presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte, held a campaign rally at Arca South in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig on April 24. Joining the two were their senatorial candidates and celebrities including Ai-Ai delas Alas and Bayani Agbayani.
Cayetano’s sister-in-law, Taguig 2nd District Rep. Lani Cayetano of the Nacionalista Party, and wife of senatorial bet Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, is running for mayor of Taguig.
Lino, who is in his first term as Taguig mayor, did not seek reelection and allowed Lani to run instead.
Lani’s rival for the mayoral post is former Taguig-Pateros congressman Arnel Cerafica of the Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago (PPP), who served for three terms from 2010 to 2019. His running mate is his wife, Janelle Cerafica, who is running for vice mayor.
Mayor Cayetano took to Instagram to criticize the UniTeam and the celebrities at the rally for endorsing the Ceraficas.
He posted a video of the rally showing UniTeam senatorial bet Larry Gadon saying, “Iboto, mayor Arnel Cerafica.”
“‘Uniteam’ in Taguig tonight sowing division,” Mayor Cayetano captioned the video.
Cayetano posted another Instagram story showing actor Bayani Agbayani mentioning the names of the rival of Lani and her team.
“Mayor Arnel Cerafica, vice mayor Janelle Cerafica, congressman ng District 1 Allan Cerafica,” said Agbayani with Delas Alas on stage.
Cayetano captioned the video with: "'Uniteam' in Taguig. At mga artista na dayo pero nangangampanya sa Taguig para sa mga taong di nila kilala (‘Uniteam’ in Taguig. And artista who are visitors but campaigning in Taguig for people they do not know).”
Lino previously endorsed the candidacy for president of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
