The Muntinlupa City government announced that it will start administering the second booster shot on April 26.

Last week, the Department of Health said the second booster shot will be given first to immunocompromised individuals.

According to the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO), the second booster shot, or fourth dose, will be available at all vaccination sites.

Those who are eligible need not register and can walk in at vaccination sites. They need to present their vaccination card, a valid ID and medical certificate.

The CHO said the second booster shot is given to add and restore protection after the vaccine efficacy of the primary series and first booster shot has waned.

Immunocompromised people who can get the second booster shot are those with immunodeficiency, HIV, active cancer, those who are receiving a transplant, those who take immunosuppressive drugs like steroids, and terminal and bedridden patients.

An immunocompromised individual can receive the second booster shot three months after getting their first booster shot or third dose.

The vaccine brands that will be used for the second booster shot are AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinovac and Sinopharm.

Health Sec. Francisco Duque III said during the “Laging Handa” public briefing on April 22 that the second booster shot will be initially limited to immunocompromised persons based on the recommendation of the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC).

He said healthcare workers and senior citizens are not yet included in the rollout of the second booster shot and their inclusion will be studied by HTAC this week.

“So matapos nilang masuri ang mga datos at kapag sabihin nila na okay na, rollout na tayo ng second booster dose for A1 and A2 ay gagawin din po natin iyan kapag nabuo na rin natin ang implementing guidelines (So after they check the data and when they said that it is okay, we will have a rollout of the second booster shot fro A1 and A2 and we will do it once we complete the implementing guidelines),” said Duque.
