Mayor Duterte jokes around with Gadon: 'We both have disbarment cases'

BIÑAN CITY, Laguna--Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte poked fun at senatorial bet Larry Gadon--and herself--during the UniTeam's grand rally here on Thursday night, April 21.

Duterte and Gadon are both lawyers, and their similarities down end there. She said both of them have disbarment cases filed against them.

"Pareho kami nito may disbarment. Pareho kaming nakasuhan ng disbarment (This one has a disbarment case like I do. Both of us have been rapped with disbarment cases)," Duterte said in her speech at the rally held at Biñan Football Field.

At that time, she was introducing Gadon--who was wearing his usual red, white, and blue shirt--to the audience.

"Hindi pa tapos sa iyo? Hindi pa rin tapos sa akin. Dahil sa pagmumura ay na-disbar--ay di pa pala, may disbarment (Is your case over? Mine isn't also. Because of his cursing, he was disbarred--oops, not yet, he has a disbarment case)," Duterte, chairperson of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), said in jest.

The 43-year-old lady official then delivered her punchline regarding Gadon: "Kukunin kong abugado ito sa disbarment ko dahil may experience sa disbarment cases (I'll recruit him as my lawyer on my disbarment, since he already has experience on disbarment cases)."

Disbarment is the disciplinary withdrawal of an attorney or lawyer's privilege to practice law by sanctioning his or her license to practice law. It is perhaps the worst thing that could ever happen to a lawyer.

Duterte didn't share any details of her disbarment case to the audience at the rally.

Her father, President Duterte, is also a lawyer.
