3 women involved in P4-M ‘inside job’ robbery arrested in QC

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced on Tuesday, April 19, the arrest of three women involved in an “inside job” robbery incident that took a total of P4,760,688 cash from a bus company in Cubao, Quezon City on Saturday, April 16.

Lt. Col. Elizabeth Jasmin, QCPD Cubao Station (PS 7) commander, identified the suspects as Chena Mallari, 35, resident of Floridablanca, Pampanga; Nhelanie Butiong, 37; and Jhoan Campos, 50; both from Bacoor, Cavite.

The suspects are employees of the Five Start Bus Terminal in Cubao.

According to the police report, PS 7 personnel immediately conducted an investigation on the robbery incident that occurred at the bus terminal located on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Brgy. E. Rodriguez, Cubao at around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday.

During the investigation, Mallari, Butiong, and the company’s security guard on-duty were invited by the police for questioning.

However, the investigators noticed some inconsistencies in the statements of the two female employees.

After checking the closed-circuit television footages in the area, the investigators found out that what happened during the incident did not match with Mallari and Butiong’s statements.

The suspects later admitted that they, together with two male cohorts, planned a “staged robbery” to prevent the discovery of the crime they committed.

The PS 7 immediately conducted a follow-up operation after Butiong revealed that the money they stole was hidden in Campos’ house in Bacoor, Cavite.

They confiscated a total of P2,150,030 cash from the suspects.

They also recovered around P2,000,000 cash which the group stole from the bus company last April 14.

Mallari, Butiong, and Campos will be charged with qualified theft and robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code.

The police are hunting down the two male cohorts of the arrested suspects.
