Musician-director Gab Valenciano has prayed for a netizen who berated his struggles on mental health.
"Kung sino ka man, God bless you. Trying to insult me means you are triggering millions of Filipinos struggling to make ends meet. Shame on you... Not my fault you're miserable," said Gab on Twitter.
Gab made the tweet after the netizen insulted his efforts against depression.
The netizen wote: "Ano pa inaantay mo brod kung Maka puna ka Kay tatay digs wagas...pakamatay ka na...di na kaya ng depression mo eh."
Gab said that he is not desperate enough to take his own life because he has a beautiful family, support system, and a God who loves him.
On Instagram, Gab shared that he has been receiving negative messages almost every day. But he said he managed to build enough strength to disregard negativity.
But Gab said he is concerned for people who aren't strong enough, those who may not have the support system like he does.
"What a sad and dangerous reality. No wonder suicide and depression cases are at an all time high," he said. "Filipinos used to be warm, loving, hospitable and caring. Where did we lose our way? What happened to us?"
Gab said that he's thankful that after he shared his experience, so many people sent him messages of encouragement.
According to him, the reason he's speaking out is that as the National Red Cross Mental Health ambassador, he has seen enough hardship to stay quiet.
"Once upon a time, I too struggled immensely. But I turned my life around from toxic habits and people because I had pillars of strength to help keep my head above the water," Gab said.
"But this isn't about me. I am speaking for those who may not have the same support and strength to combat such remarks and cruelty. I've lost too many friends to such an act, and I've seen and heard to many stories of people, especially the youth, give up BECAUSE of irresponsible and carnal comments, tweets and messages. Trolls or not, fake or real accounts, people who are struggling see and feel those words no matter if they're true or not... and to them, it's as real as their air we breathe."
"If you get to read this and are going through rough waters (or know people), know that you are not alone. We're in this together. DM me or Red Cross Youth, and we will do what we can to help and also point you to the right direction, so you are able to gain that fighting chance at life.
"May God bless you and keep your heart protected and at peace," he said.
