Fencer Maxine Esteban swept her pool matches to advance to the knockout stage of the World Senior Cup in Belgrade, Serbia.

Esteban scored six points in Pool 7 after beating Slovakia’s Gaia Cantucci, Japan’s Haruka Umetsu, Poland’s Martyna Dlugosz, Austria’s Maria Kraenkl, Singapore’s Tiffany Seet and Hungary’s Dora Lupkovics.
She enters the Round-of-64 stage as 27th seed and will face 38th pick Julia Walczyk of Poland.
Esteban is using the tournament as part of her training ground for the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam next month where she hopes to improve her bronze-medal finish.
Prior to the World Senior Cup tilt, Esteban finished bronze in the Regional Italian Fencing Cup in Castellanza, Italy.
She also finished seventh in the Sokol Cup U23 Senior Women’s Foil Competition in Brno, Czech Republic.
