PNP open to any probe on fabricated death certificates of drug war victims

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the camp of forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel Fortun to endorse their findings to the police for proper action.

Brig. Gen. Rhoderick Alba, director of the PNP-Public Information officer, said the PNP has always been transparent and cooperative in the investigation and the findings of the group of Fortun will be used to look into the matter.

"We will appreciate if these findings will be endorsed to us, so we can also probe and look into this matter. The PNP has always been transparent and cooperative," said Alba.

He cited as an example how the PNP turned over some of the drug war documents to the Department of Justice to run after the policemen who committed abuses in the conduct of anti-illegal drugs operations since July 2016.

In a press briefing, Fortun exposed that the death certificates of some of those who died in the drug war were fabricated to make it appear that they died of "natural cause".

She said she examined 46 of the drug war fatalities and seven of them had fabricated death certificates.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said they are open to any investigation regarding the issues raised by Fortun.

"If there are lapses on the part of the PNP relating to its investigation then appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied and if it requires filing of cases, again the PNP will not be engaged in any cover up," said Fajardo.
