Tropical depression Agaton (international name: Megi) is still moving northward over the vicinity of Basey, Samar, the state weather bureau said on Monday, April 11.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in its latest bulletin issued as of 8 p.m., said that “Agaton” has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
Meanwhile, as the tropical depression moves northward slowly and continues to slightly weaken, tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 remained hoisted in the southern portion of Masbate, eastern Samar, Samar, northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, the northeastern portion of Cebu including Camotes Island, Dinagat Islands, and Bucas Grande Island.
Due to “Agaton” moderate to heavy and intense rains may persist in most parts of the country, warned the state weather bureau.
“ moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces,” said PAGASA.
Residents of the aforementioned areas were warned against flash floods and landslides considering the antecedent rainfall that “Agaton” will bring.
