PH Red Cross to dispatch 700 volunteers, staff for emergencies during Holy Week


During the observance of Holy Week this year, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed 700 of its volunteers and personnel to man 123 first aid stations and ambulance units.

The first aid stations will be strategically put up near places of worship, highways, port areas, bus terminals, tourist destinations, and gas stations.

“There will be first aid stations set up in selected Petron gas stations along NLEX, SLEX, and STAR Toll as part of Lakbay Alalay, the PRC-Petron partnership to assist commuters during events and holidays that see peak traffic,” PRC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in the metropolis, PRC will dispatch 14 emergency service teams comprised of 100 volunteers and personnel.

PRC said motorists are expected on roads leading outside Metro Manila and within to join religious activities.

“Kahit sa gitna ng pandemic, ang Red Cross ay nakahanda para umalalay sa ating mga kababayan na sasamba o magbabakasyon ngayong Semana Santa (Even in the midst of the pandemic, the Red Cross is ready to assist to our kababayans who will observe Holy Week,” Chairman Richard Gordon said.

This year, Holy Week will be observed from April 10 to 16.

Here is the reminder of PRC to motorists who will travel during the holidays:

  • Use seat belts/child car seats.

  • Wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle.

  • Drive at a safe speed and distance suitable to the condition.

  • Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Do not use a mobile phone when driving.

  • Be visible as a pedestrian or cyclist.

  • Know and respect the highway codes.

  • Maintain your vehicle in good condition.

  • Be licensed and trained for vehicle driving.

  • Know how to react in case of a crash.
