From playmates to partners: Childhood buddies marry each other after 18 years

CAVITE – A newlywed couple is making the rounds online because of their unique love story.

After their wedding ceremony in Tagaytay on Thursday, April 7, the two recreated photos taken almost two decades ago when they were just playmates.

Kristine Pearl Fernandez and her now-husband Karl Renz Alegre first met in 2004, when she was seven years old and he was nine.

Alegre's father was a client of Fernandez' father and whenever their parents met, the two kids played with each other.

Through the years, Alegre and Fernandez lost touch but reconnected in 2016. During that time, however, both of them were in a relationship.

Luckily, another chance came in 2019.

"Small talk lang sa chat and 'dun ko na pinag-isipan na what if this time pagbigyan ko na siya? Siguro naman time na namin 'to para sa isa't-isa. (We engaged in small talk through chat and I thought, what if I gave him a chance this time? Maybe it was the right time for us)," Fernandez told the Manila Bulletin.

The two agreed to meet and the rest was history.

"'Di talaga masasabi kung kanino naka-tadhana. Sa daming tao, 'yung kababata ko lang din pala ang makakatuluyan ko (You can't really tell what fate has in store for you. Of all people, it was my childhood friend I was destined to marry)," Fernandez said.
