Neri said she was appointed to the post Wednesday, April 6.

"Just yesterday, I was appointed as the chair for the New Normal Committee," she said during a joint press briefing with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday, April 7.

"It is my personal advocacy to ensure safe elections with regard to observation to health protocol particularly Covid-proofing our elections. Why? Because the election is a superspreader event and we are not out of the woods yet," she added.

Neri said there is a need to ensure health protocols especially with the more than 67 million voters expected to vote in the May 2022 polls.

"We have an estimate total of 67.5 million registered voters who will go out of their homes to exercise their right to vote. That is almost 60 percent of our total population, which is currently estimated at 112 million," she said.

"With this there is an urgent need to ensure health protocols will be observed and everyone will have the access to medical assistance," added Neri.
