Mama-o vows to work for lifting of deployment ban to Saudi Arabia

Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Abdullah Mama-o said he would push for the lifting of the deployment ban of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Saudi Arabia in the soonest possible time.

In a press conference, Mama-o said he wants to go to the Middle East to talk with the officials of the Saudi government to come up with the best solutions that would result in the lifting of the deployment ban.

He said the deployment ban has been resulting in the loss of opportunity for Filipinos in Saudi Arabia, which he said, is among the important labor markets.

"As of now we are studying all the possible solutions so that we can move forward," said Mama-o.

The Department of the Labor and Employment issued the deployment ban more than a year ago after more than 11,000 OFWs in Saudi Arabia complained of unpaid salaries from at least two of their employers.
