Pay up to settle tax issue, Pacquiao tells Marcos family

Presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao has advised the Marcoses to just pay the estate taxes they owe to the government to put an end to the persistent issue.

Pacquiao's response came after Senator Imee Marcos questioned on Friday, April 2 the timing of the supposed revival of her family's estate tax issue and blamed dirty politics for it.

"Hindi naman timing yan. Matagal na yang pinag-uusapan. Kailangan lang naman nilang bayaran (It's not about timing. People have been talking about that ever since. What they need to do is to simply pay up )," the lawmaker told reporters during his campaign sortie in Negros Occidental Friday.

Pacquiao also warned that if the government would fail to collect the P203-billion estate tax and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. becomes president, the amount, which could greatly help the poor, will be gone forever.

"Sarili imbestigahan? Eh hindi nga maibalik eh di nga makabayad eh, imbestigahan pa kaya? Di nga nagbabayad, ano pa kaya yung sila ang naka upo di ba? Nothing personal ah, sinasabi ko lang ang totoo (They would investigate themselves? How would they do that if they couldn't even pay their taxes. So what else will they do once they are in power? It's nothing personal. I'm just telling the truth)," he added.
