Out-of-control ambulance kills woman, injures husband in Negros town


BACOLOD CITY - A woman was killed while her husband was wounded after they were hit by an ambulance in Barangay Sta. Teresa, Manapla, Negros Occidental on Friday.

Killed in the accident was Gina Ticar, 48, of Barangay Sta. Teresa, while her husband, Josephio Ticar, 47, of Barangay Sta. Teresa was wounded.

According to the police, an ambulance belonging to Sagay City was following a tricycle driven by Josephio, when it hit the rear part of the tricycle.

Both Gina and Josephio suffered injuries and were brought to a hospital. Gina was however declared dead on arrival.

The ambulance driven by 59-year-old Jonathan Desucatan was on its way back to Sagay, after transporting a patient here.

Desucatan was placed under police custody, according to the police.

Meanwhile, in San Enrique town, 18 persons were injured after a van rammed into a parked sedan and a store at the roadside in Barangay Tibsoc on Thursday.

Lt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy police chief of San Enrique Municipal Police Station, said that the van lost its control when it reportedly overtook a tricycle it was tailing while approaching a curve part of the road, causing the vehicle to hit a sedan and a store.

The van driver and his 17 passengers suffered minor injuries and were later discharged from a hospital.

Gasataya said that all parties involved had already reached an initial settlement.
