Magnitude 4.8 quake hits Surigao del Sur — Phivolcs

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Surigao del Sur at around 5:32 p.m., Friday, April 1, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 15 kilometers (km) northeast of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur, and was shallow at a depth of 22 km.

Its instruments recorded the quake at Intensity I in Surigao City.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
