6-year old boy killed by a vehicle in convoy of congresswoman in Cagayan


SOLANA, Cagayan -- A 6-year old boy who ran across the road died after he was run over by a convoy of congressional candidate in Brgy. Sampaguita, Solana.

The victim was identified as Augusto Cauilan, a kinder student, and resident of Brgy. Sampaguita.

The incident according to investigator on case Staff Sergeant Jeriemar Prieto happened at around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The boy was hit by a black Toyota Land Cruiser with plate number NAM 9882 and driven by Elmer Kulasing, 54, a resident of Brgy. Danaili, Abulug, Cagayan.

The car was part of a convoy of Congresswoman Baby Aline Vargas Alfonso of 2nd District of Cagayan. Said convoy was traversing the national road from Tuguegarao City and was bound for Piat, Cagayan.

Upon reaching Brgy. Sampaguita, Solana, Cagayan, the boy suddenly ran across the road, getting hit by the said vehicle and was thrown away. The boy sustained injuries in different parts of his body.

The driver’s companions, Jayson Pamittan and Dimetrio Ziganay, immediately rushed the victim to St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City for medical treatment but died.

Solana Police contacted the driver and instructed him to appear with the involved vehicle on the said accident. The driver had finished the activity of the said official and surrendered to the police including his vehicle.

“Sinabi ng isa sa security na inaayos na nila ang ospital at makikipag ayos na rin sa pamilya ng biktima,” Sergeant Prieto told Manila Bulletin.

It was also learned from Prieto that the victim was alone watching along the road when the incident happened. The driver is still in the custody of Solano Police Station.
