San Juan to launch 19th wave of food packs to residents; success in Covid-19 fight cited

The San Juan City local government announced on Monday, March 14, that they will once again deploy food packs to its residents as part of its effort to help them recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a Viber message to Manila Bulletin, Zamora said that a total of 45,000 food packs will be distributed to all 21 barangays in the city starting Thursday, March 17, ensuring that every San Juaneño family will receive the assistance.

He said the city government is now preparing to distribute the food pack claim tickets to its citizens today.

Meanwhile, the city government reported a continuous decline in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the city after tallying less than 10 cases for nine straight days.

According to the local government unit (LGU), San Juan has recorded seven active Covid-19 cases as of March 11. It also tallied 20,878 recoveries and no new deaths. This is the second straight day the city recorded no new casualties from the virus.

Zamora attributed this development to the city's proactive approach in responding to the pandemic, particularly in its vaccination efforts.

On March 4, San Juan launched two drive-thru booster vaccination stations located at the City Hall Parking and at the Makabagong San Juan Plaza on N. Domingo Street.

Zamora also opened five new booster shot satellite areas in the city at Agora Public Market, Santolan Town Plaza, at the 2nd Floor of Connecticut Parking, Fountain Area Center Mall, and at the Entrance of VMall near the Chapel of Greenhills Mall.

He said the program specifically intends to give the public easier access to booster shots and to cater to more people who are willing to get the booster but could not find time to register and wait for the schedule.

He added that the sites are conspicuously located in commercial and high foot traffic areas to attract and convince more people to get the jab.

Zamora said the drive-thru and satellite vaccination areas are also open to non-residents of San Juan.
