Campaign vs loose firearms intensifies in Pangasinan


LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has presented 223 firearms to Ilocos Regional Police Office (PRO 1) director Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque during his first command visit here on Monday.

PPPO director Col. Richmond Tadina said the various firearms presented were accumulated from different law enforcement operations of the police personnel in the province.

The presentation was done at the Magilas Hall of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Command this city.

Based on records, 99 were surrendered by politicians vying for various elective posts in the forthcoming elections, 73 were from Oplan Katok, 43 were surrendered by private gun owners and 60 were confiscated during different police operations conducted across the province.

Of the number, 36 are under the custody of the Provincial Forensic Unit while the other 16 firearms are under the care of courts.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang ating kampanya laban sa loose firearms. Ang ating National Headquarters ay patuloy din sa pagbibigay ng guidance sa ating mga lower units,” said Obinque.

Meanwhile, Obinque also led the oath-taking and donning of ranks of two police officers who have been promoted to higher rank.

Rommel Bagsic and Jake Isidro have been promoted to Lt. Col. from the rank Major.

Moreover, some 11 PPPO personnel have also received medals and certificates of recognition because of their relentless service to the public.

“Be a role model of discipline para i-respeto ng taumbayan ang ating hanay dahil sila ang nagbibigay ng sahod sa atin bilang mga alagad ng batas,” Obinque said in his message.
