Two persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who had served their jail terms have been released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

BuCor said those released “underwent Covid-19 antigen test to ensure they are free from the virus before going home to their families, and they also received transportation allowance.”

It said it has been expediting the release of qualified PDLs to decongest jails in its seven prison facilities nationwide.

In 2021, it said it released a total of 4,610 PDLs.

Those released included 2,378 persons who had served their maximum jail terms; 1,193 who had been acquitted of their criminal charges; five who had been granted conditional pardon; 598 who had qualified for parole; 43 who had qualified for probation, eight who had been allowed to post bail; and 385 who had qualified under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) based on the law that reduces jail term for good conduct while under detention.
