ZAMBOANGA CITY- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 9 destroyed some P34.4-million worth of illegal drugs at the Permex Producer and Exporter Corporation, one of Zamboanga city’s canning factories, on Monday, March 7.
The destroyed drugs were composed of 5,608 grams of shabu worth P31.4 million, 16,314.9716 grams of marijuana worth P3 million, and some 20 liters of liquid meth and expired medicines.
The drugs were destroyed by means of thermal destruction, a method which employs heat of up to 800 degrees celsius for the contraband’s total destruction.

The destroyed drugs were seized during various illegal drug operations in Zamboanga Peninsula and Sulu Province. These were covered by court orders for destruction.
The activity was witnessed by representatives from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), PNP Crime Laboratory, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), local officials, civil society organizations, members of the media and PDEA-9 personnel.
The last time PDEA did a similar destruction of illegal drugs was in October 2020.
PDEA has been conducting the destruction of illegal drugs since 2014.
