Dior merges fashion with technology and protection through its autumn-winter 2022 show

‘The Queen’s Gambit’ star Anya Taylor-Joy, a pregnant Rihanna, and our very own Heart Evangelista came to Paris to witness Dior’s latest collection

Kicking off Paris Fashion Week on a high-tech note is Dior with Maria Grazia Churi’s autumn-winter 2022 collection in the Tuileries. The luxury brand’s creative director collaborated with D-Air Lab, an Italian company focused on developing personal safety clothing, in making “The New Era” line with pieces that blur the line between style and technology and heritage and modern.

“How can the past serve as a starting point to invent the future?” Churi posted on Instagram. “For this collection, we decided to design and create a series of items that emerge from the dialogue between fashion topics and those of technological utilities.”

To present just that, the runway show was opened by a black bodysuit wired with luminescent light that in the dark runway looks as if it is floating in the air. The fashion and tech crossover continued with a series of LBDs in homage to the silhouette of the ‘50s “The New Look,” paired with utility gloves and stylized safety vests, among others. While it is sounding very futuristic, the collection also champions artisanal works with its romantic gowns, delicate headbands, and mismatched earrings.

“I think that to explore this kind of territory helps us to understand the real value of fashion,” the designer said in a story by Reuters. “Sometimes we think of fashion only with an idea of an embellishment of our body, not something where our body lives.”

Among the celebrities who witness the show are Blackpink’s Jisoo, “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy, a pregnant Rihanna, and our very own Heart Evangelista.
