Huawei MatePad Paper previews the future of note taking

Huawei MatePad Paper

Tablets that use e-inks hardly come to mind, which is precisely why it was quite a surprise from Huawei to announce the MatePad Paper. It’s a 10.3-inch tablet that uses a greyscale screen. You use it to read and edit documents, read e-books, and you can even watch videos with it.

Huawei’s own M-Pencil is compatible with the MatePad Paper. So you can scribble and doodle all over the screen. Huawei said the screen sensitivity is 26ms – which is an impressive feat that shows how far e-ink screens have gone. Normally, we associate e-ink screens with e-readers like Kindle. Huawei’s MatePad Paper shows there’s more to e-ink screens than e-readers.

You can connect the MatePad Paper to Huawei devices using the HarmonyOS to drag and drop documents. It’s clearly aimed for people who work with a ton of documents and dealing with countless reading materials. And the MatePad Paper shows a lot of promise.

Maybe once the technology has gone mainstream enough someday in the future, we can give kids a break from carrying several notebooks and books, keeping it simple with a single device like the MatePad Paper.
