Fisherman drowns off Cagayan; body found 2 days after


GONZAGA, Cagayan – Philippine Coast Guard personnel based in Sta. Ana, Cagayan and a rescue team from the Gonzaga municipality were able to retrieve the body of a fisherman, who was believed to have drowned after his boat was hit by huge waves recently.

The body of Ronel Tolentino, 38, of Barangay Baua, Gonzaga, Cagayan, was recovered by rescue team after it was reported that he went missing on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022.

Probers said Tolentino went out to sea with Raymart Malagday, and both were just 500 meters from the shoreline when huge waves hit their boat, sending the drowning victim overboard.

Malagday tried to help Tolentino get back on the boat, but strong waves swept him away. He was found Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, by rescuers.
