DOTR completes 143 port projects

The Department of Transportation ( DOTr) Maritime Sector has completed 143 social and tourism port projects nationwide to date, Secretary Art Tugade reported.

The port projects will provide better accessibility, connectivity and mobility to coastal and island communities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, he noted.

In Region 1, the DOTr finished a total of 5 port rehabilitation and expansion projects.

In Region 3, the agency completed improvements on Orion, Bataan which are now used by fishermen and small banca operators to transport goods.

In Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon - CALABARZON (Region 4A), DOTr finished 11 port projects, one of them being Laguimanoc Port in Quezon Province.

In Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon - MIMAROPA (Region 4B), the agency totaled completed port projects.

These include the Pag-Asa Sheltered Port Project that aims to provide the public with port facilities for passenger ships, cargoes, fishing, and other government vessels.

In the Bicol Region, the agency finished 19 port projects and 19, in Western Visayas.

In Central Visayas, DOTr came up with 6 port projects and 39 in Region 8.

These ports will connect the islands, and enhance tourism and fishing activities in the Visayas.

In addition, DOTr finished 3 port projects in Region 9.

In Region 10, it finished the construction of Migpange Port in Misamis Occidental and completed two ports in Region 11.

In Region 13, DOTr had 8 port projects and 13 in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
