Bren Esports haunts former players with big win over Team Secret

The new-look Bren Esports kept its former players winless through two games in the VCT 2022 Challengers PH following its dominant 2-0 sweep of Team Secret in the Group A action on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Bren Esports set the tone for the romp in its own map pick in Game 1 in Icebox where it destroyed the Valorant Champions 2021 SEA representatives, 13-1. Bren never looked back from there as it sent Team Secret crashing to its second straight loss with the clean sweep

It was Bren’s first win in the tournament which incidentally came at the expense of its former players.

The quintet of Team Secret led by Jayvee “Dubstep” Paguirigan once played for Bren and even qualified to the Berlin Masters last year.

After failing to compete in the Berlin Masters due to travel restrictions, the crew was released by Bren and was picked up by Team Secret before the start of the Valorant Champions.

Although parading a new set of players, Bren was quick to assert might against TS with a 4-0 start in the first half. Team Secret stole one round from Bren but that proved to be the first and last in Game 1 as Xavi8k-led Bren secured nine consecutive rounds to draw the series’ first blood.

Xavi8k top scored in the series opener with 19 kills.

Stunned by the Game 1 drubbing, Team Secret struggled to find its groove even on its own map pick in Bind. Bren secured the first five rounds before Team Secret was able to put its name on the board.

Bren’s solid defense allowed the squad to still take a 7-5 advantage before the switch. After surrendering three rounds in the second half, Bren closed out the series with four straights rounds to take a 13-8 Game 2 win. Xavi8k once again showed the way for Bren with 22 kills on the Raze.

Bren will face Oasis Gaming next while Team Secret continues its search for its first win against Action PH, both games on Sunday, Feb. 13.
