‘One second lang’: Mayor Vico convinces 10-year-old kid to get COVID-19 jab

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto shared a charming encounter he had with one of the children scheduled to be inoculated at the SM City East Ortigas vaccination site on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

In a Twitter post, Sotto recalled a story about a 10-year-old child who was scared and hesitant to take the vaccine. He told the child he would not leave him until he gets jabbed.

To convince him to take the vaccine, Sotto offered some words of encouragement.

“Para lumakas ang loob niya, sabi ko sa kanya, Wag kang mag-alala, one second lang masakit yan. Mamayang gabi pa yung SOBRANG SAKIT (To encourage him, I told him, don’t worry. It will only hurt for one second. It will hurt more later tonight),” Sotto said.

The tweet was positively received by netizens who complimented the mayor’s humor and wit, and also commended the way in which he approached and helped the child overcome his fear.

Pasig City began the pediatric vaccination rollout for children aged five to 11 years on Feb. 9. A total of 1,650 children were inoculated in the four vaccination sites for the age group in the city. (Khriscielle Yalao)
