BI seizes electronic gadgets, other contrabands in its Taguig jail

Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have seized electronic gadgets, alcohol, knives and other contrabands when they conducted a surprise inspection of agency's warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig City.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the raid was carried out last Friday to ensure that the facility is free of drugs and other banned items.

"The shakedown is long overdue as the last surprise inspection was conducted a year ago,," the BI chief said.

Some of the items confiscated were cellphones, tablets, laptops, alcoholic beverages, kitchen knives, scissors, hammers and gambling paraphernalia.

"While the facility is not a jail the use of certain items like sharp tools are prohibited," Morente said.

Some of the confiscated items will be kept and returned upon the detainees release for deportation.
